FRANK M. TOTTON ESSAY CONTEST
The Endowment Fund of the Fifth Manhattan Masonic District sponsors this contest which is administered by this GL Committee. The topic changes yearly. The contest is open to any High School senior who is the child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or the member of their extended family, of any NY Mason, living or deceased, who is now or in the case of a deceased Brother was a member in good standing at the time of his death. The essay must be between 200 and 350 words, with no name appearing on the essay page itself. Essays must be accompanied by the appropriate form, indicating the Lodge seal and the secretary’s signature by a due postmark date which changes yearly. First prize is $1500.00 with nine other cash prizes available.

DANIEL CARTER BEARD MASONIC SCOUTER AWARD
The award consists of a certificate endorsed by the Grand Master of New York and a Boy Scouts of America –approved Masonic neck medallion and knot patch to be worn with a Scout uniform.
The Grand Lodges of Masons in the United States invite their members to recommend a contemporary for the award. In the petition for this recognition, the nominator must submit the candidate’s full name, mailing address and an attached page(s) explaining the candidate’s qualification for the award. The petition is then reviewed by the Master of the candidate’s Lodge, and if found to be qualified, the petition is authorized and forwarded to the Lodge’s District Deputy Grand Master. The District Deputy then submits the petition to the local Boy Scout Council for approval and verification that the candidate is registered in Scouting. Once approved and verified by the local Boy Scout Council, the District Deputy will forward the petition to – Cary Cohn, 3604 Anita Lane, Wantagh, NY 11793.
The cost of the award kit is $35.00, which is borne by the candidate’s Lodge. Checks should be made payable to the Grand Lodge F. & A.M. of Pennsylvania and submitted with petition by the District Deputy to Cary Cohn who will then forward all petitions, attached information and checks to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, for the recognition kit that will be sent to Cary Cohn who will then forward it on, after having the New York Grand Master sign the certificate, along with the seal of the Grand Lodge of New York affixed. The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania will forward the information on awardees to the Boy Scouts of America, Relationships Division, Irving, TX. Please allow 6-8 weeks in your planning for any public event.
MASONIC GIRL SCOUT AWARD
MASONIC EAGLE SCOUT AWARD
This distinctive and prized award is bestowed upon Eagle Scouts in recognition of their dedication to Scouting pursuits and achievement. The recipient receives the bronze citizenship medal approved by the BSA National Council, a commendation from Grand Lodge and a letter from the Grand Master. The award was created through the influence of the Honorable Judge, MWCharles W. Froessel, Grand Master, 1944-46, who was an avid Scouter all his life.
