EMPIRE ROOM
This room was completely redecorated in early 19th Century in French neopolitan style with Greek and Roman influences. Thousands of sheets of Dutch metal gold leaf were used to create tonalities of gold in a seven-to-ten-step process developed by Fine Art Decorating.
The laurel motif spotlights the Roman impact. Major wall panels are stenciled in a way which gives almost a three-dimensional effect to the Empire period theme. Fine brush work, shown in the detail, illustrates the painstaking procedure used to achieve the final effect.
