[ Lodges and Buildings ]
A Solid Foundation for Masonry
Welcome to the Committee on Lodges and Buildings!
Our Committee’s mission is to help Masonic Lodges keep their foundations strong, and keep an eye toward the future.
We work with Lodges and building owners to maximize their resources for performing various Masonic and ownership duties. Our committee’s services include:
- Lodge Trustee certification [ download form ]
- Real estate evaluations [ download worksheet ]
- Insurance reviews [ download more information ]
- Reaching out to various utility companies to find the best prices [ rfp request ]
- Seeking real estate tax reduction
- Cash flow projections [ instructions ] [ worksheet ]
- Compiling membership actuarial projections to assist in long range planning
- Translating the Benevolent Orders Law and determining how it affects Masonic Lodges [ more information ]
The one thing we don’t do is recommend consolidating Lodges or reducing the number of buildings owned by Lodges.
We’ve also developed several initiatives:
Lodge Awareness Program
Demographics play a very important part in the future of our Craft. If our Lodges are to succeed, our leaders need to know as much as they can about their membership — things like age, location, how active they are in the Lodge, and how successful they’ve been with member recruitment. This knowledge will assist Masters in their duties, including keeping Lodge members active and raising new members.
Over the last two years, we’ve sent membership data to each Lodge. In addition to members’ ages and addresses, this information included a 10-year history of each Lodge’s results in the areas of new initiates, increases in membership due to affiliations, unaffiliations due to non-payment of dues, and the unfortunate death of some members. Each Lodge also received a request for information on the ownership and approximate operating costs of the Masonic Buildings they own or rent.
We hope this program assists Lodges in realizing their current place in New York Masonry, in the new millennium...
Commemorative Book for the New Millennium
We᾿ve put together an exciting publication that’s dedicated to the history of Lodges in New York State, called: A Masonic Portrait of the Empire State. This book details Masonry’s proud and distinguished past and our very bright future. [ Order Form ] [ Flyer ]
Lodge and Building Status
At this time, our committee members have visited most of the Masonic Districts in New York State. We’ve enjoyed meeting with the brethren, and exchanging ideas about the Craft’s present conditions and what we can do together to make our future brighter. We plan to continue our personal meetings with Lodge officers and Trustees to ensure that we’ve gathered input from every district in the state!
